McCain campaign meltdown

OMG, the last 2 weeks have been BAAAAADDDD for McCain but it just got horrendous in the last 24 hours. Suspending your campaign? REALLY? Skipping the debate? WHAT?

Perhaps 2 things will go down in history as the beginning of the end for the McCain / Palin ticket: McCain canceling his appearance on Letterman and Palin's interview with Katie Couric.

I will pretty much let the clips speak for themselves. First, Letterman. If you haven't seen this, you must.

Some of my favorite things that Letterman said:

"Are we suspending [our campaign] because there is an economic crisis or because our poll numbers are sliding?" To which the audience responds with "Oooooohhhh!" and Paul Schaffer says, "Oops! Oops oops!"

"And let's say there's a time of crisis...and then Sarah Palin takes over as president, well she ought to be ready because she's handled crises like this in the past...oh wait a minute, she really hasn't handled a crisis like this in the past."

And the interview of Sarah Palin with Katie Couric speaks for itself. Here is the worst of it - what will go down in history as "the Russia question":

I am blown away by how...DUMB she sounds. I almost feel sorry for her because I think the McCain campaign really wanted to beef up her foreign policy credentials and they've made her tout the Russia thing even though it sounds SO STUPID.

Goodbye, John McCain & Sarah Palin. Thanks for the blog fodder.

Dave Letterman last night:

"they just left [David Blaine in Central Park] hanging there. Kind of like John McCain did to me last night."

"Paris Hilton is here... unless she has to rush off to Washington to save the economy"

And, the BEST:
"John--you don't come to see me? you don't come to see me? Well... we might not see YOU on Inauguration Day"

*blank stare* I hadn't seen that interview. Ee GADS. I mean, I don't mean to detract from the fact of Alaska's geography, but... I think if a MiG (does Russia still have those?) flies over Alaska, the Governor tells someone to call Washington.

Also?! HAHAHAHAHA@ Katie Couric: "Mocked?" *thinking: bc that's what we did. We mocked you. I can't believe it--you're an even BIGGER idiot in person*

(Katie Couric's thoughts, not mine)

The part about Palin's stupidity really hit home after I learned yesterday that she attended 4 colleges in 6 years. Not exactly a scholar, was she?

And we're not talking "bastions of higher education" here:

Hawaii Pacific University
North Idaho College
University of Idaho
Matanuska-Susitna College

But I guess since McCain finished FIFTH FROM LAST in his graduating class at West Point and still doesn't understand the economy after 26 years in the US Senate, it's okay not to be what you might call "a quick study."

McCain graduated from USNA, which only admits the country's top students, and offers majors in math, engineering, economics, political science and physics. Bottom of the class of the country's top students in those fields is not so shabby.

Bottom of your class at the Naval Academy means you only got in because your father and grandfather were both 4-star admirals, making McCain little more than a "legacy".

Kind of like that OTHER idiot flyboy who got into the White House on the heels of his dad, surrounded by The Old Guard and filled with self-confidence.

Why are liberals so bitter, asks this conservative racists bastard. I thought liberals liked handouts.

Bitter because we believe the last 8 years has set us back 20. *heavy sigh*

I presume, Laura, that your comment was in reference to the post about "conservative racist bastards". I will echo Jenn's sentiments. I don't think all conservatives are racist bastards. And perhaps being from the more traditionally PC side of the spectrum, she should have used some different language in her post *raised eyebrow @ Jenn*.

It's sort of like how "liberal" seems to be a bad word these days. How many times has McCain said that Obama is "the most liberal Senator" during this whole ordeal? I'm liberal and proud.

I'll speak personally. I have a deep dislike for the way things have gone down in the last eight years. I philosophically do not agree with most of what the Bush Administration and Republican Party has pushed forward. Much of what they have pushed has deeply offended me (see, for example a Federal Marriage Amendment, continuation of Don't Ask Don't Tell, winning an election in large part because the "gay issue" got people out to the polls, etc.) This is a big election for me. I fear I won't recognize my own country if all of this business *sweeping generalization* is allowed to continue. These issues consume a lot of my time because I worry. I worry that if I ever have kids, they won't have the same rights that others do, or they'll get shipped off to a war I don't agree with. And I worry they won't have any trees to sit under in a park to shade them from the lethal levels of UV rays all around them. I know that it isn't fair to blame all of that on one Party, and I really don't. It's just easy to do that. At the end of the day, how much better are the Democrats really going to be, especially with a $700B bill to pay for this bailout alone? But still, I have to hope that they'll be better. *fingers crossed*

I JUST realized how it sounded when I lumped "conservative" in with "racist". I am sorry--it's just that conservative HAS become a bad word to me. Which isn't fair. ...although the way I perceive it, racists TEND to be conservative. Just like potheads TEND to be liberal.
I also just grabbed the conservative label because the original story came from Fox.
I also don't really have a good idea about what being a conservative means. I get fiscal conservatives (who don't seem exactly abundant within the Republican party). I do not understand social conservatives. To me, that means "intolerant".
I'm sure there is much more to it and I am sorry bc I realize more and more I am not as tolerant as I would claim liberals are. *sigh*

also, *tickled at David: "I'll speak personally" and imagining him pulling up a chair, facing it the wrong way, and putting his foot up on it before he continues...*
