TV!!!!

I've managed to close my jaw from J's announcement re: cable. On to one of my greatest passions in life: television programming. There is a multitude of programming that I would point you to, but rather than overwhelm you, I'd suggest starting with the following. This list is not in any specific order.

  1. SciFi Channel - on the surface, you're probably thinking, "sick!" But try it! I watch two specific programs religiously. Ghost Hunters (which happens to be on tonight) and Battlestar Galactica (which premiers its final season in April). I would highly recommend both of these shows. Ghost Hunters is good because it's real, and some of the stuff they find is creepy. Despite the name, Battlestar is a show that I honestly think everyone can enjoy. It's SciFi for non-geeks.

  2. Food Network - My absolute favorite show is Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger. Laura and Steve got me her cookbook for Christmas, and I've made close to half of the things in it. You can see me blather on about her recipes in other posts. But, I also like Giada's Weekend Getaways.

  3. TLC - I like a lot of the shows on TLC (mostly the ones on the weekends that deal with flipping or decorating) mostly because I feel like I am learning something for future reference. Like when I can actually afford to buy a house. But there is a lot of crap on this station, so beware! My current faves are Take Home Handyman and What Not to Wear.

  4. HGTV - Again, lots of crap, but Property Virgins, My First Place and Deserving Design hold my attention.

Again, this is just a start. Please let me know once you have mastered my recommendations, and I'll provide others.

My favorite show on the Food Network is "Ace of Cakes." Since I like to bake and am employed in an artistic field, I love seeing what creative cakes will happen each week. And, I wish I could work/be friends with those people.

A channel David didn't mention...I don't know if he doesn't have it, or just hasn't given it a try...is BBCAmerica. Steve hates my two favorite shows because they are "too real," I guess, lol, but they are "How Clean is Your House" and "You are What You Eat." They show the extreme behaviors of seemingly everyday people (in cleaning or eating), and then offer sensible tips that everyone should have learned somewhere along the way. You mentioned starting a healthy diet, and "You are What You Eat" teaches you a lot about what should and shouldn't be in your food. They both also offer the before-and-after aspect of a lot of the shows David listed on the other channels.

Ooooo I forgot about Ace of Cakes. I also like Iron Chef, though the "America" version isn't as funny as the original.

Also something I didn't mention (and I cannot believe I forgot it) is Bravo. I don't like everything on Bravo, but I DO like Project Runway and Top Chef. This season's Top Chef is in Chicago, so I keep hoping to see myself on camera. So far, no dice.

I haven't tried BBCAmerica. I should, though. Those shows sound fascinating to me.

Those shows on BBCA are so disgusting that they could cause an eating disorder or an OCD cleaning problem. Just be warned.

I personally love the cooking shows on Discovery Home (Take Home Chef, Inner Chef, Cookin' in Brooklyn, License to Grill, Kylie Kwong) They are what the Food Network used to be when it was the best thing going.

Also on DiscHome are a bunch of "green" shows. (Living Fresh, Manic Organic, Greenovate)

Check it out http://home.discovery.com/

*overwhelmed* but *excited*
Last night, I watched the Daily Show and some show about plastic surgery. SO gross, but SO addictive!!
Seriously, you guys, I can't wait to get to know all of these shows you mentioned.
D, I tried to watch Ghost Hunters, but long story short... right now, we can record and watch the same show and Dave was taping (ha! "dvr'ing"?) The Daily Show last night. NEXT TIME...
