Cleaning Question
I can't ask either of my blog colleagues this question. P's laundry can't seem to find the hamper, and I'm starting to think he doesn't know how to use a dishwasher. And then J, well... J can barely keep herself clean, much less offer advice in this area. So I look to our loyal readers to help with this question (my guess is that my sister-in-law is going to be the first to answer).
We have natural stone throughout our master bathroom. Annoyingly, there is exactly one cleaning product in all of Target that is safe for natural stone. Believe me, I read all of the labels. Just ask P who stood there sighing the entire time. And let me tell you, that one product does nothing for that teeny tiny spot of mildew in the corner of the shower. I've scrubbed (and scrubbed) and it's not coming out. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's really starting to stress me out, which probably surprises no one. My last resort is to ask via Facebook comment, so you know how serious this is.
And before anyone asks, no. That's not a picture of our shower, but that scenario is the picture my brain paints for me every Sunday when I'm scrubbing the shower 'til my fingers are tiny bleeding nubs.

And as if that picture isn't gross enough, how 'bout that razor just sitting in all that?! That's one way to get a massive fungal infection, if you ask me.
I was like: !!! at the advanced state of the mildew in your shower based on that picture. I KNEW it couldn't be true!
What about bleach? Like putting some on a rag and dabbing the mildew spots? mm?
Also--the razor IS gross. Although I know I've done that.
My standby for crevice cleaning is spray bleach & an old toothbrush (i.e., spray Chlorox into the corner, and scrub away w/ an old toothbrush in the cracks), but I have no idea if bleach is safe for natural stone. I know white vinegar is a wonder-substance for cleaning purposes. Here are some tips: http://www.vinegartips.com/scripts/pageViewSec.asp?id=7
(If that link doesn't work, go to vinegartips.com and select the "cleaning" link.)
D is full of it as I am not that messy. And omg going to Target with that one is TORTURE! I may as well drop him off in the cleaning aisle and finish the rest of our shopping and get a latte and yet he might still be staring at the labels of various cleaning products.
Is it near the grout? Do you need to remove the grout and then redo it with mildew-resistant grout or calk? Did you check the book you got for Christmas?
While I'm flattered that you would assume I'd know :) our bathrooms are both 70s harvest gold tile, so I don't have first-hand experience.
Anxiously awaiting "How Clean is Your House?" on Friday...L
